Why are Marnie Stern getting all the attention while equally math-n-metal loving, not-a-girl-it's-a-band Kirsten Ketsjer are playing to 30 people at Lit? I'm not knocking Marnie Stern, but if you love that band's hammer-on tendencies, you should go equally apeshit for this Danish trio who absolutely mesmerize with thier skill, melody and general energy. Mind you, it was about six people when they started but people came towards the stage like a magnet soon after.
This is the definition of power trio (not to compare them to Cream or anything, there's no bass), three as one... you know, very New Testament but in a rock sort of way. They could've played some of the more catchy songs off last year's FFFFOO K TSSCCH! -- someone yelled for "The Brigde" (not a typo) but singer/drummer Anja Jacobsen said "We'll do something just a good," before launching into a volume/time signature/mood - switching epic that wowed us all.
Go see Kirsten Ketsjer. If you live in NYC or are going to be here for CMJ you have little excuse, they're playing here a bazillion times in the next week. Plus some dates around the East Coast over the weekend. If you like Velvet Underground, Television, Bettie Serveert, the Greatful Dead, Marnie Stern, metal, indie rock, Denmark, spoken word, noodling, no-bass bands, twin-leads, or Nordic good looks... this might be the band for you.
