It's officially Hot Chip Week at Sound Bites which doesn't mean that much, actually: probably just this post and a review of Saturday's much-anticipated Highline Ballroom show. But still I will be counting down the days to Saturday.
Initially I was lukewarm to Made in the Dark but have come around to its many pleasures. Sonically it sounds like it could've come between Coming on Strong and The Warning, with more R Kelly influence and less New Order. But I've come around to its myriad charms. What Hot Chip have going for them, and I'm not quite sure how they pull this off, is they are ironic and sincere at the same time. With lots of heart -- the title track is a genuinely moving ballad.
I think the album actually gets better as it goes along, with the five best songs right smack in the middle -- "Touch to Much," "Made in the Dark," "One Pure Thought," "Hold On" and the clever slow-jam, "Wrestlers," which views a relationship as a no-holds-barred match. Funny because it's true.

You don't have to wait till Tuesday -- or procure a copy in a way that might make you feel dirty -- to hear Made in the Dark right now. You can stream the whole thing at Clashmusic.com.
If you didn't get tickets to one of this weekend's NY/LA show, Hot Chip are coming back in April for a North American tour and may cause me to finally pull the trigger on a Terminal 5 show which I have been avoiding like Vampire Weekend. Here are the dates:
4/10/08 @ Starlight Ballroom in Philadelphia, PA
4/11/08 @ 9:30 Club in Washington, DC
4/12/08 @ Terminal 5 in New York, NY
4/14/08 @ Paradise in Boston, MA
4/17/08 @ Vic Theatre in Chicago, IL
4/18/08 @ First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN
4/22/08 @ Showbox in Seattle, WA
4/23/08 @ Crystal Ballroom in Portland, OR
4/24/08 @ The Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, CA

I cannot agree more.
