Mark E. Smith has famously said "If it's me and your granny on bongos, it's still the Fall." But if it's M.E.S. and German electronic duo Mouse on Mars, what you've now got is Von Südenfed.
While Smith has guested on other artists' records many times (Coldcut, Inspiral Carpets, Elastica, D.O.S.E.) this is the first full-on side project as far as I know. Those who were disappointed by the sloppy nature of the Fall's latest, Post-Reformation TLC, should be pleased with Von Südenfed's album, Tromatic Reflexxxions. While it would be wrong to call it slick, it does sound deliberate. Smith hasn't sounded this engaged (and funny) since The Real New Fall LP and MoM's Andi Tomi and Jan St have provided some great backing for his vitriol.
The album is out in June, but Domino Records has provided two songs in popular MP3 format:
