To be completely fair, I don't think that Voxtrot have gotten anywhere near as much attention and hype as Artic Monkeys have in roughly the same amount of time, though their recent NME appearance may change that. Rather, they've built their audience through lots of touring and admittedly lots of blogger love. I don't think they're the saviors of anything, either, and believe me, when I first heard them, I thought they were good but weren't quite "there" yet either because they were really derivative of The Smiths and Belle and Sebastian. However, after seeing them at Magnetic Field last December and picking up their 1st EP, I was converted into a full-fledged fan.

And last night, they were a lot better live (they just keep improving) and I also agree that their new EP bests their 1st one. I can't wait for a full-length!

Also, the song "You Can't Hide Your Love Forever" (which also makes me think of Orange Juice) is apparently a cover of a song by a band called Comet Gain. I've never heard their original, though. Anyway, Voxtrot play it live and tack it onto the end of "Raised by Wolves", which is what they did last night.

Did Voxtrot play any new songs? Sunday night, they played a new one, which they admitted was still at an early stage. Guess they are taking off the summer to work on their full-length.

I rather enjoy how various members of the band are so into the music when they play that they just hop around with abandon. When I saw the Arctic Monkeys, they never had that sense of joy. Not that their music is exactly the same, but it's nice to see a band enjoy themselves.

I need to get some Irving. I guess I will buy some stuff from them when they play the Knitting Factory in May. I like one of their older songs, "L-O-V-E".

Yes they played a brand new song in the middle of the set, though I don't know the title. It sounded good, though. According to Stereogum, they opened with an "unrecorded" song on Sunday night. Do you know what it was? I'm thinking that it might be one of their 2 B-sides. Here's the review:

that drunk girl really bothered me. she seriously ruined my entire evening.

you know what is really sad is that I can only think of the simply red version of that song...

The original version of You Can't Your love Forever was a 7" only single by Comet Gain from a few years back. It only came out in the Uk and has long since sold out, but will be available on a What's Your Rupture compilation sometime this year. For my money the original is superior, but what the hey...
